Construction on deck for area surrounding John Glenn Columbus International Airport

Airplane flying with gear extended.

Big changes are in the works for John Glenn Columbus International Airport, reports Marla Rose in an article for The Columbus Dispatch.

But don’t worry: Most of the projects won't begin for several months – if not years.

As Ms. Rose writes:

Several years from now, the road around John Glenn Columbus International Airport will be a giant construction site as a planned billion-dollar new terminal is built.

Many of the pending changes are designed to make John Glenn a more attractive airport to fly into.

A new car-rental facility to serve the airport, being built by the airport authority, should commence construction next year [2018].

Additional hotel rooms also are in the works on the airport property

Work on the new Residence Inn next to the airport terminal is planned to start next year, with a hoped-for spring 2019 completion date. Like the Fairfield Inn & Suites next door, it will be developed and controlled by the airport authority.

And changes won’t only be taking place outside the terminal, Ms. Rose writes in a separate piece for The Dispatch:

Franklinton-based Land-Grant Brewing Co. opened a location in Concourse B late last year [2016]. Another brewpub announced last year, American Craft Tavern, is expected to open in Concourse C by July.

Columbus-based Donatos, which opened its first airport location in Columbus three years ago, will open a second location in Concourse C later this year. Featuring a full bar, it will replace Johnny Rockets in that space

Happy flying – and noshing!
