The cost of mailing a letter, it is a-changin’ — unless, of course, you’re stocked up on Forever Stamps.
New postage rates proposed in October of last year by the United States Postal Service will take effect on Sunday, January 27.
- The cost of a First-Class Mail Forever Stamp, good for mailing letters and cards weighing one ounce or less, will rise to 55¢, up from 50¢.
- Each additional ounce will cost 15¢, down from 21¢.
This change means the face value of Forever Stamps bought prior to January 27 will increase to 55¢, regardless of the price at which the stamps were originally purchased.
- So those Forever Stamps sitting in your desk drawer will still be good for one ounce of First-Class Mail, even if you only paid 50¢ (or less!) for them.
Retail Priority Mail Flat-Rate postage will also increase as part of the rate changes, which were approved last November by USPS's regulator, the Postal Regulatory Commission.
