Hilliard students can thank the upcoming total solar eclipse for an extra day of spring break this year.
Hilliard City Schools announced yesterday that students will be off on Monday, April 8, to allow them to observe the eclipse. The path of totality for the April eclipse crosses just northwest of Columbus between approximately 3:10 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
Students will receive a pair of eclipse glasses before leaving for spring break. The district also clarified that "there will be no high school sports practices or other extra-curricular activities scheduled [on April 8] until after 6 p.m.," and that "all elementary and middle school after school activities will be canceled."
Hilliard's 2024 spring break is scheduled for March 29 to April 5. Students will return to school on April 9, following the eclipse; there will be no school on Wednesday, April 10, for Eid al-Fitr.
