Summer '17 | Cool off at one of Hilliard’s two municipal pools

A header image announcing The Glen's Summer'17 series of articles.

You’re bound to spend some time at the pool this summer, swimming with the kids, lounging on a pool chair – maybe even floating down a lazy river or two. That’s why there’s no better way to kick off our Summer ‘17 series than with an overview of Hilliard’s municipal pools.

The City of Hilliard operates two municipal pools – the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center, 3850 Veterans Memorial Drive, with its 560-foot lazy river, 30-foot water slides, and “nationally recognized” main pool; and the Hilliard East Municipal Pool, 4450 Schirtzinger Road.

The Hilliard Family Aquatic Center will be open between May 27 and September 4, while the Hilliard East Municipal Pool will welcome swimmers from May 27 to August 20.

Kids four years old or younger, or any child who uses a flotation device, must be under the direct supervision of an adult. That, according to the city, means “within arm’s reach of an adult [who is] in the water [and] in a swimsuit at all times.” Children who are between five and nine years old must be “visually supervised by an adult … at all times.”

Bringing a group to the pool? Hilliard requires one adult for every two children who use flotation devices or are four years old or younger. For kids between five and nine years old, one adult is required for every five children.

Day Passes

Hilliard Family Aquatic Center
Children (3-9) – $8
Adults (10+) – $10
Senior Citizens (55+) – $3

Children age 10 or older may swim without direct supervision, whether or not they are part of a group.

One final tip for a successful day at the pool: Check with your friendly local meteorologist before heading out.

Hilliard municipal pools do not offer refunds for day passes in the event of inclement weather, and “rain checks” are provided only when a pool facility closes for the day, not if a pool is temporarily cleared.

Swimming lessons

We’ll be going over swimming lessons later in this series. But if you’re in a hurry to sign your kids up, consider downloading Hilliard’s “Learn to Swim” brochure.
