From the City of Columbus Department of Public Services:
"Make the Holidays Green by Recycling"
"The Department of Public Service encourages Columbus residents to help make this year’s holidays a little greener by recycling packages, wrapping paper, Christmas trees and other holiday items."
"Waste Wizard:"
"A good way to get started is to visit the Division of Refuse Collection webpage at www.columbus.gov/publicservice/Refuse-Collection where you will find the division’s Waste Wizard tool. Type the name of an item into the wizard and we'll let you know how to recycle or dispose of it."
"For example, typing ‘wrapping paper’ into the wizard gives this result:"
"Wrapping Paper: Put this item in your blue recycling cart.
Set-out Time: Place your blue recycling cart out the evening before collection or by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Special Instructions: Remove all tape & stickers. Remove all bows & ribbons. Paper made of foil, plastic or with a special coating should go in the trash."
"Recycling Christmas Trees:"
"Columbus Christmas trees are collected and recycled into landscaping products. Trees will be collected on residents’ regular yard-waste day:"
- "Remove lights, ornaments, tinsel and all other decorations from the tree."
- "Place the tree on the curbside by 6 a.m. on your yard waste collection day. Residents can go online at 311.columbus.gov/colorday or call (614) 645-3111 to identify their yard waste collection day."
- "If your tree is eight feet tall or taller, cut the tree in half so it can fit in the collection truck."
- "Trees in plastic bags will not be collected."
"Packaging:"
"The paper or cardboard from packages as well as broken-down cardboard shipping boxes can be added to your recycling bin. Plastic jugs or bottles are recyclable in Columbus, but plastic packaging such as blister packaging is not. When buying gifts, consider items with less packaging or recyclable packaging."
"To preserve the life of the Franklin County landfill and save energy, remember the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Check the Keep Columbus Beautiful website at keepcolumbusbeautiful.org and the SWACO website at www.swaco.org to learn more."
