New traffic pattern now in effect at intersection of Fishinger Road and Riverside Drive

Progress on the Fishinger Road/U.S. Route 33 (Riverside Drive) construction project led Tuesday to a change in the traffic pattern at the intersection, according to an Ohio Department of Transportation traffic advisory sent earlier this week.

Work at the intersection to add an additional left- and a dedicated right-turn lane from Riverside to westbound Fishinger should wrap up by September 30, per ODOT. A new traffic signal will also be installed as part of the $2 million road expansion.

Improvements to the Perry Township intersection, announced by ODOT in January 2017, have been going on since late March.

The ODOT traffic advisory stated that, as of Tuesday morning, the eastbound side of the Fishinger Road bridge was "back to its original configuration" and that cars in the "right lane must turn right" onto Riverside Drive.

Riverside remains "reduced to one through lane in each direction at the intersection," per the bulletin. The usable lanes, however, are now on "new pavement".

The construction, while inconvenient, should benefit area businesses and residents once completed.

"[T]here's been so much development," Colin's Coffee owner Colin Gawel told ABC 6 in April. "[T]he only way to get to Hilliard or Dublin is right through this intersection."

"I think it will help the traffic getting home," added Mr. Gawel. "I'm sure the people in Hilliard and Dublin will appreciate that."
