Update (04/02/20): The 2020 dog license renewal deadline has been officially extended to June 30. "The time extension should ensure dog owners can properly license their pet, as is required by state law," Franklin County auditor Michael Stinziano said in a statement.
Franklin County auditor Michael Stinziano has asked the Franklin County Board of Commissioners to extend the 2020 dog license renewal deadline to June 30, the auditor’s office announced Tuesday, in response to the closure of in-person registration due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.
Currently the deadline to purchase a license without paying a penalty is March 31.
"The Auditor’s office wants to ensure that no resident is paying a penalty fee as a result of the current public health emergency," Mr. Stinziano said in a statement. "Licensing your dog is responsible pet care, and I want to make dog licensing easy and accessible ... while encouraging residents to stay healthy."
Franklin County’s commissioners will consider Mr. Stinziano’s request during their regularly scheduled general session on Tuesday, March 31, at 9 a.m.
Despite the closure of public offices due to COVID-19, Franklin County residents can still purchase dog licenses online.
