Monday in Summer ‘17, we went over local swimming lessons offered by Hilliard Recreation and Parks. Be sure to check out the post if you haven’t already!
But practicing your skills isn’t just good for kids. Learning is a lifelong process, after all, and Columbus is ready to assist all of us in our aquatic pursuits.
In today’s Summer ‘17 post, we’re continuing our swim lesson “mini-series” by going over the programs offered by Columbus Recreation and Parks – for both kids and adults.
Learn to swim, no matter your age
Age Groups
Infants & Toddlers –
6-35 months old
“3 to 5” – 3-5 years old
“6 to 18” – 6-18 years old
Adults – 19 & older
Columbus offers swimming lessons in four age groupings: Children between six and 35 months old participate in the infant and toddler class, which introduces them to the water with the assistance of a parent or guardian, while three to five year olds explore the water more independently in the “3 to 5” group.
Participants in the other two age groups – six to 18 and adults (age 19 and up) – take a skills pre-test at the start of their session and are placed in one of six course levels based on their ability. All classes are taught by Red Cross water safety instructors.
Find the pool that’s right for you...
Swim lessons take place at each of Columbus’s eight outdoor swimming pools. Individuals must register at the pool where they intend to take their class.
Registration for all courses opens at 11:30 a.m. on a specified day before the course starts.

This summer, the city is offering four, two-week sessions for the “6 to 18” age group: June 12-22 (registration on June 11); June 26-July 6 (registration on June 18); July 10-20 (registration on July 2); and July 24-August 3 (registration on July 16). Classes are held Monday to Thursday of each week.
At the Tuttle and Dodge pools, 12:10 p.m., 12:45 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. start times are available; 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. start times are offered at the remaining six pools. Tuttle also has an 11:30 a.m. session.
