Branch Out Columbus 2020

We recently came across information regarding the Branch Out Columbus 2020 initiative that may be useful to Glen residents interested in planting trees in their yards.

According to the city's Office of Environmental Stewardship:

Thanks to Branch Out partners Kurtz Bros and SWACO, [Branch Out Columbus 2020 is] offering 1,000 free trees and compost to Columbus residents to plant on their property. The trees are in two-gallon pots.

If you would like to register for a tree to be picked up on Saturday, April 15, you can register here and further details will be provided soon.

(Note – City employees are not eligible to receive free trees; tree must be planted in the City of Columbus to be eligible; limit of two trees per household.)

Please visit Columbus.gov/BranchOut or call (614) 645-0815 for more information.

Community Backyards Rebate Program

Looking for another cost-effective way to plant a tree this spring? The Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District's Community Backyards Rebate Program might be for you.

According to the Franklin SWCD:

The Community Backyards program focuses on rainwater runoff and its detrimental impacts on local water quality, streambank erosion, and localized flooding. Participants learn how to install rain barrels and plant rain gardens, along with an introduction to composting at home and the benefits of native plants.

This year we will continue with the $50 rebate program. New this year, New Albany and City of Columbus residents are eligible to receive a $100 rebate toward a native tree INSTEAD of the $50 rebate toward a rain barrel, compost bins, or native plants. The rebate program does renew each year, meaning that if you received a rebate last year, you can participate again this year and receive a 2016 voucher for a rebate.

The Community Backyards program is available to City of Columbus residents, participating Municipalities, and Franklin County residents who register to be a City of Columbus GreenSpot member. For questions, please call (614) 486-9613. Not a GreenSpot member? Register here.

(Note: Registering as a GreenSpot is not the same as completing the online course and quiz. Both are requirements to receive a rebate.)

Please visit the Franklin SWCD's website for more information on qualifying for this rebate.
